New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Amman on a bilateral visit to Jordan, where he met King Abdullah II. In the meeting between the two leaders, political, economic and security-related issues were discussed. This visit was also important because after almost 37 years an Indian prime minister made an official visit to Jordan. Diplomatic relations between India and Jordan have completed 75 years.
The current situation in West Asia was discussed in the conversation between PM Modi and King Abdullah II. Both sides expressed their views on the situation related to Gaza and the ongoing tension in the region. It was also discussed in the meeting how to move forward with the situation through contact and dialogue. Apart from this, other issues related to bilateral relations were also considered.
A total of five agreements were signed between India and Jordan during this visit. These agreements are related to different areas.
Under these agreements, work will be done on sharing of technology, training, experience and better use of resources.
The issue of terrorism was also discussed during the meeting. Both countries reiterated their stand against terrorism and radicalism. PM Modi mentioned the role of Jordan in dealing with terrorism. Security cooperation and exchange of information were also discussed in the conversation. Both sides talked about the need to maintain stability in the region.
There were also discussions regarding trade relations between India and Jordan. Both leaders agreed that there is scope to further enhance the current trade level. There was discussion on increasing cooperation in areas like renewable energy, water management, digital technology and tourism. The presence of Indian companies in Jordan and investment opportunities were also discussed.
PM Modi invited King Abdullah II to visit India, which has been accepted. In the coming time, work will be done to increase education, culture and contact between people. Both sides agreed to maintain contact and start further processing on the agreed agreements.
